Remember the 1970's era Illinois Central Gulf Railroad?

Illinois Central Gulf. 1985.

This photo is one of many really nice ones found on My newest links page to the right of Your computer screen at Fallen Flags.Org

I grew up on the southwest side of Chicago approximately one mile north of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad's Iowa Division Mainline.

I originally didn't think much of their orange and white color scheme wich unfortunately didn't weather well, but eventually fell in love with it.
The Illinois Central Gulf was formed in October of 1972, with the merger of the Illinois Central, and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad.
The ICG experienced many financial difficulties, and eventually sold and spun off several ex G,M & O lines in the south during the mid 1980's. The old roadname Illinois Central was revived as well as a new version of their black and white paint scheme.

The Canadian National bought out and absorbed the Illinois Central through merger in the year of 1999.
