One unique railroad color scheme I fondly remember growing up as a Chicago railfan during the 1970's and 80's, was the bright orange used on some of the boxcars, covered hoppers and cabooses of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

This color scheme with the split rail logo, was introduced by the Illinois Central Railroad in the year of 1967, and was continued by the succesor railroad Illinois Central Gulf in 1972.
